The Everydayer — “This Is A 1980s-Style Football Game” (Thursday, November 5, 2026)

The Everydayer Newsletter, Morning News masthead, November 5, 2026

Good morning, Everydayers. It’s Thursday of Georgia week, two days out. Ole Miss legend Bill Flowers leads today, with his plan for Georgia’s run game and his final score. Then today’s LOOM Flagship, a crossover with Corey Burton, who was on Mark Richt’s staff at Georgia, on why Saturday night is an old-school football game in a spread offense’s clothes.

🏈 Legend Speaks: Bill Flowers

Ole Miss legend Bill Flowers was in Oxford for the 45-15 win over Auburn, and he joined Locked On Ole Miss on Wednesday to break down Georgia. His key is simple: “What beats Ole Miss is getting pounded by the run.” His plan is to bring the safeties down, put pressure on Gunner Stockton and meet Georgia’s runners in the hole. “You’re not going to beat me on the ground.”

He thinks Trinidad Chambliss is the difference: “You cannot draw up a perfect defense for that kind of quarterback,” and he expects Chambliss to run more Saturday than he has all year. On what’s at stake: “This is the win that solidifies you and stamps you for the playoff.”

His pick for Saturday, and his alone: Ole Miss 27-21.

What we couldn’t confirm: Flowers’s and the show’s comments on other teams’ coaching and quarterback situations, and on one Ole Miss receiver’s confidence, aren’t reporting, so they’re not in this newsletter.

☕ Morning Coffee

“This is a 1980s-style football game.”

That’s how Steven opened today’s LOOM Flagship, a Georgia-week crossover with Corey Burton, who was on Mark Richt’s staff at Georgia. Three things from today’s show:

  • The trenches decide it. Steven opened the show with the frame for Saturday: “This is a 1980s-style football game” disguised as a modern spread offense. Whoever runs the ball and stops the run wins. The matchup up front is the best in the game. Georgia has 26 sacks this season. Ole Miss hasn’t allowed one in three games, 137 straight pass-blocking snaps. Steven’s explanation: “It’s hard to sack Trinidad because it’s hard to rush Trinidad.” Rushers don’t come as hard when they’re worried he’ll take off.
  • Ole Miss has a plan B. For five years the knock on Ole Miss was that it needed explosive plays. Without Kewan Lacy, the Rebels ran for 224 yards against Auburn, converted 13 of 16 third downs and put together four drives of 11 plays or more. “This Ole Miss team looks like it has a little bit of a plan B,” Steven said. Corey’s answer for Georgia is to take the big plays away and “make Ole Miss work for it.” And on Chambliss: “Once he breaks containment, it’s ball game.”
  • A coin flip, and one pick. The LOOM Model has the teams 0.1 points apart in power rating. Steven’s players to watch beyond the big names: Shekai Mills-Knight, who led Ole Miss with 75 rushing yards against Auburn, and Baylor transfer linebacker Keaton Thomas, the “eraser” in the middle. The flip side, in Steven’s words: “If you can stop Georgia’s run game, the more you stop them, the more average that offense becomes.” Corey’s pick, and his alone: Georgia 34-31.
