Good morning, Everydayers. Ole Miss is No. 7 in the AP poll, five of the top seven teams in the country lost on the same Saturday, and Texas week starts now.
☕ Morning Coffee
“If this Ole Miss defense plays like that every single week, this Rebels team is not going to lose another game.”
That is how Steven opened today’s LOOM Flagship, and the tape from Saturday backs him up. Missouri came to Oxford ranked No. 13, averaging 35.8 points a game, and left with one field goal. Three things we learned from 31-3:
- The defense. Missouri ran for 29 yards in the first half and 39 in the game, 1.5 a carry, a season low. It is the second time in a decade Ole Miss has held an SEC opponent to three points or fewer. Pete Golding: “Anytime you hold a team like Missouri to 39 rushing yards, you have a shot.”
- The backs. Kewan Lacy ran for 122 yards on 16 carries and Makhi Frazier for a career-high 101 on 15, the first pair of 100-yard Rebels since Arkansas in 2022. Ole Miss ran for 257 yards at 6.7 a carry against a defense that came in allowing 78.3 a game.
- The quarterback’s off day. Trinidad Chambliss went 20 of 36 and said so himself: “The accuracy wasn’t there for some of my throws.” He still threw three touchdown passes, ran for a fourth, and tied Matt Corral for second in school history with a touchdown pass in 19 straight games. Steven: “His off day was a 28-point win.”

🏆 In the Polls
| Team | AP (Oct. 18) |
|---|---|
| Ole Miss | No. 7 (up from No. 9) |
| Texas | No. 19 |
| Missouri | No. 22 |
The top six: Miami, BYU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia and Indiana. Four of those six lost a game this season, and three of them lost on Saturday.
🌪️ Could Ole Miss Win It All?
Georgia lost at home to Auburn. Notre Dame lost at BYU. Indiana lost at home to Ohio State. Alabama lost at Tennessee. Texas lost at home to Florida. That is five of last week’s top seven on one Saturday, and nobody in the SEC is unbeaten anymore.
Steven’s answer to today’s question, would it surprise you if Ole Miss won everything: “No, not after Saturday.” Ole Miss is 5-1 and 3-1 in the league, and Texas, Auburn and Georgia are all still on its own schedule. “What if I told you that was a warm-up act,” he said of last season’s playoff run, “and it all comes down to what happens this weekend at Texas?”

📈 The Line
Per FanDuel, as of Sunday morning, Oct. 18: Texas -3.5, total 55.5. Texas has lost two straight and is still favored at home.
Steven’s read on what that means: the market sees Ole Miss as good, not great, and the next three weeks decide which it is. That is the difference between a January game in Oxford and a January game on an airplane.
The show reads the market. It does not make picks.
