The one stretch Ole Miss actually controlled on Friday afternoon came in the third set, and by then the match was already gone. Oklahoma swept the Rebels 3-0 at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center, closing each of the last two sets on a run after Ole Miss had pulled within reach. Ole Miss falls to 8-15 overall and 2-10 in the SEC; Oklahoma moves to 12-9 and 5-7.
Set Scores
Oklahoma 3, Ole Miss 0 — 25-18, 25-16, 25-17
Who Did It
- Melia Johnson — nine kills with no attack errors, a .563 afternoon, plus two blocks
- Shayla Meyer — seven kills and four blocks
- Jorda Crook — six kills and a block
- Ryea Jackson — two kills, three blocks and an ace
How It Went
The first set was the sloppiest of the three — nine combined service errors between the two teams — and Oklahoma pulled away from a 17-13 lead with a 4-0 finish, sparked by Alyssa Flack at the service line.
The second got away early. Oklahoma led 15-4 out of the technical timeout, and while blocks from Johnson helped Ole Miss trim it to 20-12, the set never came back within striking distance.
The third was the one. Ole Miss tied it 13-13 and stayed with it to 21-17 before Oklahoma closed on another 4-0 run.
The Numbers
Oklahoma finished with 43 kills to Ole Miss’s 24 and hit .393 to the Rebels’ .139, on 84 attack attempts to 72. Assists went 43 to 24 and aces 7 to 2. Errors were 10 for Oklahoma to 14 for Ole Miss. The one column the Rebels took was blocks, 7 to 3.5. Johnson’s .563 was the highest hitting mark Ole Miss has posted in SEC play since Oct. 16 against Georgia.
Ole Miss closes its home schedule Sunday against Arkansas at 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus.
