Georgia visits Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. Central on ABC, bringing the nation’s No. 2 team and a defense allowing 14.9 points and 272 yards per game. The Bulldogs average 41 points, run for 200 yards per game and have 26 sacks through eight games after 20 all of last season. Ole Miss has won 16 straight at home.
Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis said Trinidad Chambliss will have his Heisman moment Saturday night, and argued the opponent is why it will register as one. Willis called Chambliss the best player in college football and said a few special plays on this stage would decide the game.
Georgia’s reputation is what amplifies those plays, Willis argued: a scramble on third and eight, a back-shoulder throw in the red zone or a designed quarterback draw all carry further against the No. 2 team on national television. He noted Ole Miss has already played Texas and LSU, and said this is the best defense Chambliss will see all year.
The second pillar is the defense winning first and second down just enough to force Georgia into third and long, where Suntarine Perkins, Tah’j Butler and Kam Franklin can pin their ears back and Georgia’s line has to hear the snap count in a full stadium. Keaton Thomas, the fifth-year Baylor transfer who wears the green dot, has 53 tackles, four tackles for loss and six quarterback hurries.
Willis also wants the season’s cleanest game. Chambliss has thrown eight interceptions, and Ole Miss has not allowed a sack in 137 straight pass-blocking snaps. He predicted Ole Miss 27-21, the same score former Ole Miss receiver Bill Flowers picked. John Fourcade also took the Rebels. A win would be 17 straight at home, a program record.
