Trinidad Chambliss threw three interceptions at Texas, going 25-of-52 for 250 yards and two touchdowns after a 6-of-18 first half. He ran for seven yards, a third straight game under 10. Auburn arrives off a 38-17 home loss in which LSU threw for 387 yards and one Auburn cornerback allowed 10 catches on 10 targets for 114 yards. Auburn ranks 60th in EPA per pass, per Sports Illustrated.
Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis built his case on that matchup, calling Saturday a Chambliss get-right game and pointing at the secondary across from him. What bothered him about Austin, Willis argued, was not the plan Texas had waiting but the open misses against a good team.
Chambliss has thrown a touchdown pass in 20 straight games, two short of Chad Kelly’s school record. Against Missouri he was 20-of-36 for 213 yards and three touchdowns. Willis said the timing on deep crossing routes has been off for two games, with three deep balls against Texas dropped or mistimed. Auburn allowed a 70-yard touchdown, and he expects that shot again.
Willis set his first key as handling Auburn’s quarterback run game, noting Golding’s word Monday was eliminate. His worry is 8-yard runs on second down keeping the chains moving. Auburn’s quarterback has six rushing touchdowns. Willis named Keaton Thomas, a Baylor transfer with 37 tackles through six games, as the man who must meet him on scrambles.
With Kewan Lacy out, Makhi Frazier is the lead back after 101 yards against Missouri. Willis predicted Ole Miss 38, Auburn 17, saying the Rebels reach the high 30s if Chambliss is near his Missouri form. Jalyn Crawford and Terez Davis were listed questionable. Georgia is eight days away, and Willis said Ole Miss cannot look past Auburn.
