Trinidad Chambliss Was Rattled For The First Time, And Ole Miss Has No Game Left To Spare

Texas beat Ole Miss 34-27 in Austin on Saturday. The Rebels trailed 24-3 at halftime, scored 21 straight to tie it, then saw a Hail Mary intercepted in the end zone. Trinidad Chambliss finished 25 of 52 for 250 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, a career high. Ole Miss is 5-2, 3-2 in the SEC.

Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis called it the Rebels’ least clean game of the season and the first time he had seen Chambliss truly rattled. Willis argued the loss was not season-defining: Ole Miss gave up its margin for error in Austin, not its goal.

Jalyn Crawford intercepted two passes, the first Ole Miss player with two in a game since 2023. But Chambliss threw a pick on the play after Crawford’s first takeaway, and another on fourth-and-goal at the Texas 2. “I played terrible tonight,” Chambliss said. “I was careless with the football.” He still threw a touchdown pass for a 20th straight game, behind only Chad Kelly.

Kewan Lacy was carted off after landing on the shoulder he hurt against LSU in September. Pete Golding said it was the same one. Makhi Frazier, who had a career-high 101 yards against Missouri, took six carries for 47 after Lacy left. Willis said the answer is not one back but the plan, starting with Chambliss’s legs: seven rushing yards, a third straight game under 10.

Four of the last five are in Oxford, where Ole Miss has won 15 straight and is 38-3 since 2021. Auburn comes Saturday with the Rebels a two-score home favorite, a week after being an underdog in Austin, which Willis read as the market declining to overreact. His close: win out, and a December home playoff game is still in front of them.
