Twenty-Four Points Down, Seven Points Short: Ole Miss Falls 34-27 at Texas

UNIVERSITY RELEASE — Originally published by Ole Miss Athletics, Oct. 24, 2026.

Ole Miss trailed 24-3 at halftime in Austin, outscored Texas 24-10 after the break, and still came up seven short, falling 34-27 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in front of 104,306. The Rebels drop to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC. Texas moves to 5-2 and 2-2.

By Quarter

Texas 34, Ole Miss 27 — Texas 10, 14, 0, 10; Ole Miss 3, 0, 14, 10

Texas built the 24-3 lead before the break, then went scoreless in the third quarter — the only quarter either team was shut out. Ole Miss answered with 14 in the third and 10 in the fourth, but Texas put up 10 of its own in the final quarter to hold the margin.

All three Ole Miss touchdowns came from two sources: Trinidad Chambliss threw two touchdown passes, both to Horatio Fields, and Kam Franklin recovered a fumble and returned it for a score. Lucas Carneiro made field goals of 46 and 39 yards and had a 58-yard attempt blocked. For Texas, Arch Manning ran for two touchdowns and threw one to Ryan Wingo, Michael Terry III ran for the fourth, and Gianni Spetic made both his field goals, from 23 and 33 yards.

Who Did It

  • Trinidad Chambliss — 25-of-52 for 250 yards, two touchdown passes and three interceptions, plus five carries for seven yards
  • Horatio Fields — three catches for 50 yards and both Ole Miss touchdown receptions, long of 27
  • Deuce Alexander — eight catches for 87 yards, the Rebels’ leading receiver
  • Caleb Odom — five catches for 59 yards
  • Makhi Frazier — six carries for 47 yards, the team’s leading rusher
  • Kewan Lacy — 16 carries for 36 yards
  • Jalyn Crawford — two interceptions and four tackles
  • Keaton Thomas — eight tackles and half a tackle for loss
  • Kam Franklin — six tackles and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown
  • Blake Purchase — four tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss
  • Lucas Carneiro — 2-of-3 on field goals, from 46 and 39 yards
  • Oscar Bird — seven punts, 43.3 average, long of 54

The Margins

The red zone is the cleanest line in the box score: Texas scored on all five of its trips, Ole Miss on one of two. Both teams turned the ball over three times — Chambliss threw three interceptions, while Texas threw two and lost a fumble — so the possession ledger came out even and the conversion rate did not.

The ground game was the other gap. Texas ran 42 times for 207 yards, with Raleek Brown taking 23 carries for 157 and a long of 47; Ole Miss ran 30 times for 113. That difference showed up on the clock, where Texas held the ball 34:57 to the Rebels’ 25:03 despite Ole Miss running more plays, 82 to 72.

Texas won anyway after being flagged 14 times for 134 yards, nearly triple Ole Miss’s eight penalties for 58. The two teams tied at 23 first downs apiece, and Ole Miss was the better third-down team on the day at 6-of-18 to Texas’s 3-of-13.

What It Meant

It is the second Ole Miss loss of the season and the second on the road, both to ranked opposition. Texas finished with 419 yards of total offense to the Rebels’ 363. Ole Miss managed three points in the first half and 24 in the second, and Chambliss’s 52 pass attempts were 16 more than he threw a week earlier against Missouri.

Jalyn Crawford’s two interceptions were the defensive highlight, and Kam Franklin’s fumble-return touchdown was the only non-offensive score of the game.
