Ole Miss plays at Texas on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Central on ABC in Austin, where the Longhorns are home favorites despite consecutive losses to unranked Oklahoma and unranked Florida. Wednesday’s injury report had three starting offensive linemen banged up at once: Patrick Kutas probable, Terez Davis and Brycen Sanders questionable. Kewan Lacy was listed probable.
The Locked On SEC host who convened the panel argued the SEC has become a week-to-week league in which the better team no longer reliably wins. He said he cannot name a best team because he does not know which roster will show up on a given Saturday, and that he did not understand how Texas was favored.
The Locked On Bama host said Ole Miss looked “really, really good” against Missouri and arrives confident while Texas “feels like an absolute mess,” then picked Texas anyway because that is how the league is working. The Locked On Sooners host said it should be an Ole Miss win, rating the Rebels’ offensive line and run game above Texas’s.
The pattern the panel kept returning to was a big emotional home win followed by a road game seven days later, which the Locked On Bama host called the formula of the season. One panelist used Ole Miss as the template: the Rebels beat LSU in Oxford, then lost at a struggling Florida team that had somehow been made the favorite.
The panel split: the Locked On Bama host took Texas at home, the Locked On Sooners host said the result should go to Ole Miss. It agreed a three-loss SEC team will reach the playoff, and the Locked On SEC host named Texas the team to watch in that race. Saturday is a resume game for Ole Miss, not only a road test.
