The Everydayer — “The Biggest Break … All Season Long” (Tuesday, October 20, 2026)

The Everydayer Newsletter, Morning News masthead, October 20, 2026

Good morning, Everydayers. Texas is reportedly without the best pass rusher in the country, Pete Golding says Arch Manning should be the top pick in the draft, and an Ole Miss legend weighs in on Saturday.

Today’s LOOM Flagship: Colin Simmons reportedly out, and They Said What? with Pete Golding.

🏈 Legend Speaks: John Fourcade

Ole Miss great John Fourcade joined Locked On Ole Miss on Monday, two days after Trinidad Chambliss moved past him on the school’s career passing list. Fourcade’s reaction: “I don’t think he’s all about the stats and he’s about winning.”

His read on the Missouri game was blunt: “They won it by defense.” He singled out Will Echoles (“That kid’s a beast”) and said the John David Baker offense is better than its numbers because “when they get in the red zone, they’re calling their red zone plays.” Ole Miss is 24 for 24 in the red zone this season.

His pick for Saturday, and his alone: “I got the Rebels winning this game.”

What we couldn’t confirm: Fourcade’s comments on Arch Manning’s future at Texas and his relationship with Steve Sarkisian are his opinion, not reporting. We haven’t seen them confirmed anywhere, so they’re not in this newsletter.

☕ Morning Coffee

“That’s the biggest break that Ole Miss football has gotten all season long.”

That is how Steven opened today’s LOOM Flagship, on the news that Texas star Colin Simmons is reportedly out. Three things from the show:

  • The break. Yahoo Sports reported Monday that Simmons is out multiple weeks with a high ankle sprain, and Orangebloods reported three to four weeks. Texas has not confirmed it. Simmons leads the country with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Ole Miss leads the SEC in fewest sacks allowed, 0.83 a game.
  • Golding on Arch and Sark. “I’ll get you a 25-play cut-up and he should be the top pick in the draft.” Golding called Steve Sarkisian “one of the best play callers in the country” and said the Texas skid is partly “bad luck.” His reminder: “Somehow it’s been lost that they’ve beat the number 1 team in the country.”
  • Golding’s warning. After 31-3, he went looking for what went wrong. “Sometimes there’s a false confidence that’s created based on outcomes,” he said. “We might have got lucky, right?” Steven: that is how you avoid a trap in Austin.

🎤 They Said What? Golding on Texas

The conception of that he’s not an elite player right now is crazy to me.

Pete Golding, on Arch Manning

Golding worked with Sarkisian at Alabama, and he told reporters how Texas wants to beat you: get the run game going to set up play-action. If Ole Miss can’t stop the run on early downs, he said, “now you’re one-on-one with a first-round draft pick and you don’t like the matchup.” His answer is the same plan that held Missouri to 39 rushing yards: “We got to be violent up front.”
