Missouri Can Take Kewan Lacy Away And Still Lose To Trinidad Chambliss

Ole Miss and Missouri kick off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network, a midday slot for a game the market has the Rebels favored by six and a half points. A win would move Ole Miss to 5-1 with Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma still ahead. The Rebels arrive off a Vanderbilt trip they led 42-3 at halftime and closed with four takeaways.

Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis argued the matchup breaks toward the Rebels on the scoreboard. He expects a fast start and a game that climbs into the 30s, which he called the environment Ole Miss is built for, content to play basketball on grass. Willis said the urgency is front-loaded, because Missouri’s offense is ordinary early and most dangerous in the fourth quarter.

The Locked On Missouri host made the opposite case, and conceded most of the same ground to get there. He predicted Missouri would surrender roughly 300 passing yards to Trinidad Chambliss while holding Kewan Lacy to 50 rushing yards or fewer, betting a one-dimensional Ole Miss would settle for punts and field goals. He called Chambliss one of the two best quarterbacks in the country.

Willis pointed to Caleb Odom in the space Missouri’s linebackers vacate when they come downhill against the run, and said Caleb Cunningham is overdue to break one while coverage attention stays on Odom and Deuce Alexander. Edwin Joseph had surgery, Willis said, putting a new body outside in Jaylon Braxton or Jalyn Crawford.

Willis predicted 38-31 Ole Miss, with a 7 p.m. ABC window against Texas waiting the week after. The Locked On Missouri host took Missouri 28-24, calling Missouri more complete. Both landed on the same hinge: whether Ole Miss can build a two-possession lead before the fourth quarter arrives.
