“We kind of know what they do.”

That is Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz on Tuesday, talking about Pete Golding’s defense. Three of his players spent last season at Ole Miss, and Drinkwitz says the inside knowledge runs his way: “We don’t run anything like what they ran.”

Back in Oxford, the Rebels had a message of their own. Ole Miss just won by 35, and Deuce Alexander says it still hasn’t played a full game. Somebody is going to be wrong on Saturday. Today’s LOOM Flagship hears from both sidelines.

🎙️ He Said What? Missouri Edition

I think I’d be more concerned with what we know about them.

Eli Drinkwitz, on Ole Miss knowing Simmons and Lee

I think the advantage for us is, you know, we kind of know what they do. And, you know, and we got Chris that can tell us, you know, what their base defensive is.

We need to play our best, most complete game to even be in the game.

Golding’s answer came a day earlier: “How do you make the same things look different and different things look the same?” Drinkwitz also said Austin Simmons got “Wally Pipped” at Ole Miss, and that All-American running back Ahmad Hardy still “hasn’t began a 2-week ramp-up period.”

🔥 Quietly a Monster

Blake Purchase leads Ole Miss in sacks (3.5) and tackles for loss (6.5), per the Ole Miss game notes. That is almost four of every ten Rebel sacks. Per On3, he had 3.5 sacks in three seasons at Oregon. He has matched that in five games.

The right tackle who blocks him every day agrees. Connor Howes: “I honestly think our D-ends are some of the best in the country.”

The SEC picked Ole Miss men’s basketball 13th of 16, and Chris Beard spent SEC Tipoff in Birmingham saying that’s fine with him. “We don’t have a lot of slogans, but we do have a few that we believe in. And one of them is never lose your chip.” The Rebels have nine newcomers, and the first test is an exhibition against Alabama on Thursday at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham. Read more

Yolett McPhee-McCuin starts her ninth season with 10 newcomers, no returning starters and a new, more “pro style” offense. The SEC picked the Rebels seventh. LSU transfer Jada Richard is “definitely PG-1,” and preseason second-team All-SEC guard Talaysia Cooper leads the newcomers. Read more
