Pete Golding Called His Left Tackle Elite, And Missouri Will Test It

Ole Miss ran for 196 yards at Vanderbilt and led 42-3, and for the first time this season the staff gave its weekly player-of-the-game honor to all five offensive linemen at once. Two weeks earlier against Florida, that same line had its best pass-protection day of the year and Ole Miss lost by 24. Missouri arrives in Oxford on Saturday.

Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis argued the Nashville tape is the clearest evidence yet of what this offense is, and that a head coach does not use the word elite about a left tackle by accident in October.

Head coach Pete Golding spent Monday on left tackle Terez Davis, calling him nasty and explosive with really good feet before saying he is playing elite football right now. Golding said he saw it coming in the spring, describing a pro mindset and a chip on the shoulder that takes hard coaching and answers yes, sir.

The group in front of him reshuffled again before kickoff. Tommy Kinsler IV was expected back at right tackle, but Golding said he was not in a great spot in pregame, so Connor Howes took every snap there, leaving Ole Miss two right tackles who have started. Golding counted seven different players on the explosive-play reel and said defenses built to take Deuce Alexander away will open the field for everyone else. Kewan Lacy returned and was not needed in the second half, Makhi Frazier separated himself in practice, and JT Lindsey remains in a three-man rotation.

The one injury concern is Edwin Joseph, who Golding said has a potential ankle sprain, was getting a second opinion Tuesday and could miss Missouri. Willis called Saturday the biggest game in the SEC this weekend and said the road to December runs through it.
