Ole Miss won three singles quarterfinals at the ITA Division I Men’s Southern Regional Championships in Auburn, Alabama, on Sunday — one of them against itself — and ran Kai Milburn and Igor Kudriashov through three doubles rounds to put them in the regional final.
Singles — Quarterfinals
- Igor Kudriashov def. Alabama’s Matic Kriznik, 6-3, 7-6(7-5)
- Vlado Jankanj def. Jacksonville State’s Marko Milosavljevic, 6-2, 6-4
- Niccolo Baroni def. teammate Mason Landreth, 7-5, 6-4
Kudriashov’s win came against the man who had knocked Milburn out of the singles draw in the round of 16 a day earlier, and it took a second-set tiebreak to finish. Jankanj’s 6-2, 6-4 was the most straightforward of the three. The Baroni-Landreth quarterfinal guaranteed Ole Miss a man through that bracket and cost it one at the same time.
Doubles
- Round of 16: Milburn and Kudriashov def. Braden Hanning and Vit Kalina, 8-6
- Quarterfinals: Milburn and Kudriashov def. Borsoi and Landry, 8-7(7-4)
- Semifinals: Milburn and Kudriashov def. Alberto Altur and Ethan Dasset, 6-2, 6-3
- Round of 16: Jankanj and Landreth fell to Blaydes and Bowers, 8-6
The pair’s path got easier as it went, which is the opposite of how these things usually run. They survived 8-6, then survived a tiebreak at 8-7(7-4), then handled the semifinal 6-2, 6-3 — their most comfortable result of the run arriving in the round that put them in the final.
