Two in Singles, Two in Doubles: Nova and Battesti Carry Women’s Tennis Into the ITA Regional Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY RELEASE — Originally published by Ole Miss Athletics, Oct. 10, 2026.

Ole Miss came out of Saturday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Baton Rouge with four quarterfinal berths — two in singles and two in doubles. Andrea Nova and Alice Battesti each won twice in the singles draw, and two of the three Rebel doubles pairs won twice as well.

Singles

  • Andrea Nova — def. McNeese State’s Leana Gomez 6-0, 6-1, then outlasted Tulane’s Whitley Pate 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals
  • Alice Battesti — def. LSU’s Dora Miskovic 6-2, 6-0, then Mississippi State’s Chiara Di Genova 6-0, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals
  • Soulie — came back on Louisiana Tech’s Maria Tsironi 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Mississippi State’s Gianna Oboniye 6-3, 6-4
  • Crowder — rolled past Southern Miss’s Sakura Sudo 6-1, 6-0, then fell to LSU’s Aya El Aouni 6-0, 6-2
  • Lèna Thomas Iglesias — won a three-setter over South Alabama’s Isabella Pisarczyk, then fell to LSU’s Nada Fouad 6-3, 6-3
  • Ichino Horikawa — fell to LSU’s Tegan Bush 6-0, 7-6(5)

Battesti’s was the most efficient day of the lot: four sets, four games conceded, two wins over SEC opposition. Nova took the harder route, dropping her opening set to Pate and then taking the next two for the loss of three games.

Doubles

  • Nova and Soulie — def. Sudo and Pimmada Lim of Southern Miss 8-1, then Tulane’s Natalia Perez and Campbell Ricci 8-3 to reach the quarterfinals
  • Crowder and Sarah Nita — def. Louisiana’s Safia Zenbi and Ana Martinez Vaquero 8-2, then LSU’s Ni Xi and Addison Lanton 8-5 to reach the quarterfinals
  • Iglesias and Battesti — fell 8-5 to Tulane’s Delanie Tribby and Elisabeth Braathen in the round of 32

The two surviving pairs did it the same way, opening with lopsided wins — 8-1 and 8-2, three games allowed between them — and then handling a tougher second match. Horikawa’s was the one singles loss without a win attached to it, and even that went to a second-set tiebreak.
