No. 9 Ole Miss comes off its bye to play 3-2 Vanderbilt in Nashville, on a Week 6 SEC slate headlined by No. 2 Georgia at No. 6 Alabama and No. 1 Texas against 2-2 Oklahoma in Dallas. No. 10 LSU travels to 4-1 Kentucky, No. 15 Tennessee to 2-3 Arkansas, and 2-3 South Carolina to No. 16 Florida. Kewan Lacy is listed questionable and expected to play without a full workload.
The Locked On SEC host who convened the panel framed the Ole Miss game on one number, calling the Rebels dead last against the run and saying Vanderbilt’s only route to an upset is running the football. Three network colleagues then picked Ole Miss anyway, and picked it comfortably.
The Locked On Sooners host called it Ole Miss’s game to lose, arguing Vanderbilt’s offense needs quarterback play neither option is delivering. The Locked On Bama host was blunter about why: Vanderbilt had dudes a season ago and does not now, and dudes are what win in this league. He put Ole Miss ahead by 17 or so and called the margin comfortable, while crediting Clark Lea with reinvigorating the program.
Both hedged on the same point. The Locked On Sooners host said the open question is whether the Ole Miss defense shows up, because it has not resembled what was expected. Vanderbilt’s lead back is averaging 40 yards a game, a figure the panel found hard to explain, and Jared Curtis, listed probable, sat out against Georgia before Blaze Berlowitz started.
The read the panel kept returning to is that a get-right game usually happens at home, and this one does not. Two weeks sitting in the Florida loss was taken as reason to expect a sharper Ole Miss, with Trinidad Chambliss named as the reason.
