Locked On Ole Miss — Today’s Newsletter (Wednesday, October 7, 2026)

Happy Wednesday, Everydayers. We’re three days out from the trip to Nashville, and the bye week did its job. Kewan Lacy is trending back, Pete Golding spent the week hammering the tackling that got exposed in Gainesville, and a 3-1 Ole Miss squad ranked ninth is laying double digits on a Vanderbilt team that’s better than its record. There’s plenty to get to across the programs today, from fall ball on a brand-new Swayze Field to a new look for the entire athletic department. Let’s get into it. Hotty Toddy.

On the Latest Locked On Ole Miss

Monday’s presser gave us three things. One: Kewan Lacy is coming back, but not all the way back. Golding said he’d fully anticipate having him, then said flatly that Lacy won’t carry a 40-to-50-snap load, so Makhi Frazier and the backs behind him have to come in and make their layups. Two: Golding volunteered the defense’s problem completely unasked, 62 missed tackles accounting for roughly 70% of the rushing yards we’ve given up. That’s not scheme, that’s effort, and the honest part is that it’s fixable, which is why he ran a full-contact bye week. Three: he’s game-planning three different Vanderbilt quarterback looks, Curtis, Berlowitz, and both on the field at once, a package that doesn’t exist on tape yet.
