EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — Ole Miss men’s golf sits in second place at the Hamptons Intercollegiate after an opening-round 285, 3-under par as a team, and will finish a second round that darkness cut short Monday evening.
Second Place, and a Round Still Open
The Rebels posted 285 in the first round to move into second place heading into the second and third rounds. The second round never got finished — play was suspended because of darkness, with every Ole Miss player still on the course, and the team is set to resume Tuesday morning.
Claycomb Sets the Pace
Cooper Claycomb was the low Rebel in the opening round, carding a 3-under 69 built on five birdies to finish tied for fifth individually. He was back at even par through 15 holes of the second round when play stopped.
Trolio Backs Him Up
Collins Trolio opened with a 2-under 70 to sit 14th after 18 holes, and was 2-over through 14 holes of the second round at the suspension.
The Second Round Was Going Better Than the First
Two Rebels who opened over par were busy fixing it when the light ran out. Tomas Restrepo followed a 2-over 74 by getting to 1-under through 17 holes, with an eagle at the 15th on the back nine. Daniel Tolf also opened with a 74 and was through 17 holes of the second round with an eagle and a birdie on his card.
Eduardo Matarazzo finished the first round at even par and was 3-over through 15 holes of the second, though he closed the day with three straight birdies before the horn.
