Locked On Ole Miss — Daily Links (Monday, October 5, 2026)

Good morning, Rebel Nation. The open week gave Ole Miss a breather, but the coverage hasn’t slowed. The defense is under the microscope after Florida, Trinidad Chambliss is still stacking Heisman-caliber numbers, the polls nudged the Rebels up even on an idle Saturday, and the program is reportedly trading Nike for Adidas. A baseball offseason reset and a volleyball team off to its best SEC start in years round things out. Here are today’s links. Hotty Toddy.

The Ole Miss Position Groups Facing the Most Pressure Against Vanderbilt

Sun., Oct. 4 · last 24 hours. After the 52-28 loss at Florida, the defensive line sits under the brightest spotlight. The Gators ran for 302 yards, and portal additions Blake Purchase and Jehiem Oatis haven’t yet delivered on the hype. Cooper Ferguson argues Pete Golding has to unlock Oatis before Texas and Georgia show up. (Ole Miss On SI)

Three Ole Miss Rebels Looking to Bounce Back Against Vanderbilt

Sun., Oct. 4 · last 24 hours. Henry Stuart flags three Rebels who needed the open week to reset. Linebacker Suntarine Perkins has just 17 tackles and half a sack after a monster 2024. Poll Position: Ole Miss Moves Up, Remains in Top 10

Sun., Oct. 4 · last 24 hours. Idle on its open week, Ole Miss still climbed. Zach Berry notes that upsets and parity across the country nudged the Rebels up the AP and Coaches polls without them playing a snap, keeping them inside the top 10 as they turn toward the trip to Nashville. (On3)

Ole Miss Defense’s Biggest Problem? Its Best Players Haven’t Been Good Enough

Sat., Oct. 3 · last 48 hours. Ben Garrett’s diagnosis is blunt: the Rebels’ highest-pedigree defenders simply haven’t produced. ESPN’s Greg McElroy said it wasn’t the Florida loss itself but how it happened that caught his eye. The bye gives Golding’s staff a window to coax the stars back toward their standard. (On3)

Scheme or Execution? Ole Miss Has Spent Its Open Week Trying to Fix a Broken Run Defense

Sat., Oct. 3 · last 48 hours. The trip to the woodshed at Florida didn’t expose anything new, Ben Garrett writes — the run defense was already leaking. The open week became a referendum on whether the breakdowns are schematic or just poor execution, and the answer the staff settles on will shape the stretch run. (On3)

Ole Miss’ Report Card at the 2026 Bye Week

Sat., Oct. 3 · last 48 hours. Michael Katz hands out grades, and the split is stark. Trinidad Chambliss earns an A, ranking fifth nationally at 332.5 total yards per game with 12 touchdowns. The offensive line draws a B-plus. The secondary? A D, with 62 missed tackles dragging down an otherwise promising roster. (The Dispatch)

ESPN’s FPI Predictions For Ole Miss Are Shocking

Fri., Oct. 2. ESPN’s Football Power Index isn’t buying the top-10 ranking. The model projects a 7-5 finish with losses to Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma, slotting the Rebels 19th because FPI grades projected performance rather than résumé. It’s a jarring number for a team still carrying playoff ambitions. (Ole Miss On SI)
