Bill Flowers lettered at Ole Miss and caught passes from Eli Manning. He came on the show Wednesday, two days before the Rebels walk into The Swamp as a top-five team getting points, and he was not interested in being insulted about it.
“If we were favored and everybody was feeding us the rat poison, that would be something else you’d have to be concerned about.”
“In the portal era, you have guys that are hired assassins. They have one job to do, and that is to win.”
“The way that you get your respect is by going in there and winning. That’s how you get respect.”
On what actually decides it: “What’s going to win the SEC is the line of scrimmage. And that is what Ole Miss is doing right now.” And on the margin: “Teams that can win national championships are the teams that can manipulate the score.”

Florida’s head coach was asked about his secondary this week and did not soften it.
“The last touchdown they had makes me want to puke watching it. Just really bad football.”
That is Jon Sumrall, about his own defensive backs, days before the biggest home game on his schedule. His defensive coordinator got there first. Brad White watched Auburn throw for 271 yards and hang 39 points on a defense that won the game anyway, and his summary was plain:
“We need to continue to improve. We need to get better. It’s just the bottom line, we need to get better back there.”
Here is the number underneath both quotes. Auburn dropped back and threw it 35 times. Florida broke up two of them.
So the book on Saturday writes itself, and most of the country has already written it. Trinidad Chambliss leads the SEC in passing yards. Florida cannot cover. Kickoff is 3:30 on ABC. Enjoy yourselves.
Be careful with that.
The honest version is that both teams have a secondary question this week, and only one of them has been made to answer it out loud.
Ole Miss got Sharif Denson and Antonio Kite back against LSU, and the difference showed up immediately in the two places it always does first — communication and tackling. Jaylon Braxton finished the game with an interception in the red zone. That is the good version, and it is real.
The other version is Jalyn Crawford’s turf toe. Pete Golding confirmed it Monday and did not pretend it was nothing:
“That’s what it is, and it’s really tough at that position. If you can’t run and you play corner, you’re kind of a liability.”
Crawford is day-to-day and expected to practice. He may well play Saturday. But turf toe does not improve over sixty minutes in Gainesville in September, and a corner who cannot push off is a corner that a good staff will go find on about the third series.
Florida knows exactly what its problem is. Three different people have said so in four days.
Nobody has made Ole Miss answer the same question yet. Saturday will.
