Ole Miss hosts LSU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Central on ABC, the first time in 64 years both programs have entered the game ranked in the top 10. The last was 1962, when No. 6 Ole Miss beat No. 4 LSU 15-7. The Rebels, off a 32-point win, are 3.5-point home underdogs.
Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis argued that the most unsettling part of the week is that nobody involved is angry. Two Monday podiums, two states, not a shot fired. A grudge is cheap fuel, Willis said, and neither staff is handing the other any.
Pete Golding, asked about facing his former staff, said he enjoys competing against people he has coached with and compared it to a round of golf. LSU coach Lane Kiffin deflected his own return to Oxford, saying Golding was not going to tackle anybody and he was not going to throw any touchdowns, then told LSU fans Golding coaches hard and loves his players.
Kiffin also said Ole Miss returns the best playing quarterback, running back and kicker in the country, and told his team the pressure sits with the side that won 13 games, not the one that won seven. Willis said the praise was accurate, noting Kewan Lacy ran for nearly 1,600 yards and 24 scores and Lucas Carneiro hit from 57, but called the rest a weight transfer.
The players sound done with it. Trinidad Chambliss called Saturday a crazy weekend in Oxford that is still just another game, allowing only that seeing his former coaches will be weird. Nick Cull gave the same answer on defense. The one thing they wanted to revisit was Deuce Knight’s hurdle against Charlotte, which Chambliss said Knight promised all week. Willis offered no score, saying the pressure feels like LSU’s.
